First look at The Governor in Season 3

The first picture of The Governor from Season 3 of The Walking Dead has now been released. The Governor, played by British actor David Morrisey, is by far the sickest, most demented character that Rick Grimes and his group will come across thus far. Check out this first look picture below.

Talking with TV Guide, comic creator and series executive producer Robert Kirkman took pains to assure us all that he won’t be toned down for the telly. Here is what Kirkman said:

“The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic. I think that he’s definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of. He’s definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down.”

    I wonder why they chose not to have David Morrisey “transform” his appearance into that of the Governor? Until now all the actors resembled TWD comic characters. From an article I read some time back, that was something Kirkman had taken pleasure and pride in.

    Personally, I think introducing the Governor in this season is a mistake. With the exception of having him appear on the last episode of the year, we can assume that portions of the prison story will be brushed over to shift focus more immediately to the governor. If you recall, there were prisoners who were still alive inside when the group first arrived and that, in of itself, was a really cool storyline. I hope they don’t skip over this dynamic rush into the Governor’s story because it will ultimately detract from the final showdown with the tank.

    Speaking of which, I hope they tie in the tank that Rick was hiding in at the start of Season 1 with the tank the Governor has in comics. Totally cool.
